WWDC 2023 Day 3: A Few Notable Videos
A few more videos to put on your watchlist from Thursday (Core Data, SwiftData, and more)! Only one more day of WWDC23 to go.
Today was the third day of WWDC 2023 video sessions released on Apple’s developer portal. There is one more day of sessions to go through on Friday.
Seems like my last coverage and opinions on SwiftData sparked some commenting on social media :) Oh, well, what else do I expect from Apple’s cultish following?? I promise I don’t get offended by something like, so please go ahead and share your thoughts with me.
In this article, I’ll share the list of what videos and sessions I’m shortlisting to dive in and watch later. I’ll be covering some of the session videos in depth in future articles.
Notable Sessions From Thursday
Less “must watch” videos this time, some Core Data improvements and SwiftData migration. Personally, I’m most interested in the one about uploading large files and creating practical workflows in Xcode Cloud. Here’s my shortlist:
What's new in Core Data & Migrate to SwiftData

It’s good to see that despite the new SwiftData library, Core Data gets some love as well. Complicated disruptive migrations are rare with persistence on iOS but nevertheless happen. I’m curious to see what Apple recommends to do in those cases.
Migrate to SwiftData is yet another video about the new SwiftData library that I’ll be watching along with the rest of them.
Build robust and resumable file transfers

Uploading large files and handling spotty network connection along the way is something I’ve been interested in lately (as I’m working on a feature that needs it).
I am curious to see what Apple has in store for this. I just hope it’s well integrated with BackgroundTasks framework :)
Create practical workflows in Xcode Cloud
https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2023/10278/
I’ve been delighted with Xcode Cloud for several months now. Apple made the right move acquiring BuddyBuild and integrating it into its set of developer tools.
I’m eager to see the improvements made. Currently, even though it is very robust, Xcode Cloud is lacking in features and customizability you could achieve for your CI/CD pipeline with, let’s say, a combination of Fastlane + CircleCI.
Design dynamic Live Activities & Update Live Activities with push notifications

This is another particular area of my interest since I’m working on a feature that involves Live Activities. We’ll see what new cool enhancements and features they added to it this year.
Conclusion
